Help get Jett to college, please
Organized by: Jett Johnson
There are several key reasons why I believe I am deserving of your support and donation. The first reason has to do with my passion for photography. Ever since I took my very first photo, I have been in love with the art of photography. For me, being involved in photography has helped me feel like I am a part of the bigger picture we all live in; allowing me to move people with images thought up by my imagination and made real with the help of my camera. Due to my academic aptitude (3.65 GPA) and artistic talent (see pics), I have been accepted into the Bachelors of Fine Arts Honors Program at The School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. They only take about 45 students per year. I also received a four-year $60,000 scholarship.
The next reason I feel I am deserving of your donation has to do with finances. As generous as the scholarship may seem, SVA will cost around me $60,000 per year including tuition, housing and other expenses. Financially, things are very difficult for our family. My dad has been unemployed for four of the last ten years and underemployed during another four.
How will your donations help me achieve my future career goals? Going to college in New York City will provide exposure to numerous talented people that can challenge me and guide me artistically. I will meet people from a wide array of cultures who will give me new perspectives on life and the world. Most of the teachers at SVA are working professionals who will be able to give me practical advise on how to not be just a good photographer, but a successful person in business as well. Sure I could be a photographer without going to college, but I am convinced that going to college will make me a much better artist, a much better photographer and a more well rounded person.
As true as all that is though, without your support I will not be able to justify the expense even with all those benefits and a scholarship. Even with me working while in school, donations from my fundraiser and other financial aid, I still will probably end up with loan debt in the many tens of thousands. In light of that, your generosity is critical to students such as myself in realizing their dreams.
Thank you for your support.
