BENEFITING: HELPING HANDS IN MOTION INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 26, 2010
We worked with the House of Blessings orphanage that has taken a lead role in heading up relief efforts in the community of Callabasse since no other aid was reaching the people there. The House of Blessings receives pre-fabricated, yet unassembled shelters from Samaritans Purse and then distributes them to the community. However, the House of Blessings has gone a few steps further. They have modified the design of these shelters, to give them actual walls, instead of tarp walls, a concrete floor to add stability and they have even hired at least 10 Haitian workers, paying them above minimum wage, to help out with this giant project...all out of their own pocket! The estimated cost to provide a better shelter for the community is $700 a house.
Our goal is to raise enough money to provide at least 2 houses for the people of Haiti. In order to do this Chris & Amanda Britton are participating in the Apple Cider Century
(a one-day bicycle tour of the orchards, forests and wine country in and around Three Oaks, Michigan) on September 26th. All the money raised is given to Helping Hands in Motion a nonprofit dedicated to providing housing to the people of Calebasse. Depending on how much we raise depends on how far we will ride. Here's the breakdown.
$0-$350: 30 miles
$351 - $700: 60 miles
$701 - $1,000: 75 miles
$1,001 - $1,400 +: 100 miles
Also please be aware that the website takes approximately 10% of the donations to cover the cost of the site. If you would like to donate via mail & check please make the checks out to Helping Hands In Motion and write "HOB: For Homes in Callabasse" in the memo. Please send the checks to Chris Britton at 1112 Michigan Ave Apt 1, St. Joseph MI 49085. At the end of the pledge drive, I will send all the checks to Helping Hands in Motion. Checks will be mailed no later than September 30th. The benefit of donating via check is no money will be taken off the top and it will all go towards helping build homes in Haiti.
All pledges made on the site and via check are tax deductible. If you donate via the site you will receive a receipt instantly. If you give via check you will receive an end of the year giving statement in the mail.
The people of Callabasse greatly need our help, not because they are incapable, but rather because their task of rebuilding is so big. Please consider to giving to this worthy cause.
