Although we've lived in the same apartment for years, we recently got to know our awesome neighbors Stephanie, Jevon, and their awesome 2 year-old son. Stephanie works with Focus:HOPE, an organization dedicated to address the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education, and racial divisiveness. With the recent attention put towards the disgraceful conditions of the Detroit Public School system, Focus:HOPE is partnering with the Children's Defense Fund for an opportunity to launch the HOPE Village Freedom School, the first in a network of summer and after-school programs that will improve the odds of success for children in the neighborhoods surrounding Focus:HOPE's campus. The first HOPE Village Freedom School at Focus: HOPE's Center for Children to serve 50 children in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade, free of charge. It will run five days per week for six weeks, including two healthy meals and snacks each day. Children will participate in reading, afternoon activities, and even weekly field trips.

In order to make this happen, they need to raise $50,000 by April 30. Please consider giving anything you can to help make this program happen! You can also follow Focus:HOPE on Facebook or Twitter (@Focus_HOPE).
