News Report on the Floods in northern Niger
June 28, 2016

THE STORY:

I'm starting a fundraiser to help seventeen Tuareg families in the Republic of Niger, Africa. These are families I know from my fieldwork. They are going through some tough times right now because their area was suddenly flooded, destroying homes and livestock. The Tuaregs in Niger are among the world's poorest people, and many live on less than a dollar a day. They raise sheep, goats, and camels which provide milk, their most important food. I'm hoping to raise enough money to help them buy bags of rice and millet, along with some goats to restock their lost herds. A sack of grain costs roughly $40 and will feed about 11 people for one month. If I can raise $300, the money will take care of the families I'm trying to help (78 people) for about a month. Goats cost about $40-60, and any money that's raised beyond $300 will be used to buy some goats. All money raised will be sent to the head family (elders) to purchase food and goats. Any amount would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
