Did you know that 1 in 5 children in the United States are affected by food insecurity? This means that 20% of our nation's children do not have access to regular nutritious food.
This is a statistic that I have just become aware of now interning for the nonprofit organization, Move for Hunger. Move for Hunger focuses on relocating unwanted non perishable food items that many people may just leave behind when moving. They work in cohesion with moving companies all over the United States and Canada to help distribute unwanted food to food banks. Since 2009, when the company was founded by Adam Lowy, Move for Hunger has helped to collect over 7,000,000 pounds of food, which has produced over 6,000,000 meals for hungry families! Those who use their local food bank to supplement their groceries are not just the obvious poverty stricken population. They are your neighbors, friends, and family who have to make the decsion whether to put food on the table or to pay their utility bills to keep the lights on in their house. Food insecurity is everywhere, and that's why I am working to help raise money for Move for Hunger. Please help me to help them continue to combat hunger insecurity!
