Helping Others Grow
Organized by: Jennifer Gonzalez
I'm a single parent that comes from a big family with six siblings. Growing up in a family that is so big was hectic. Going through school getting an education was always super important but also the need to have the things to survive was just as important. My parents did the best they could with what they had and maybe because they weren't taught how to manage money well, we all suffered a great deal over the finances. I found out when I was in junior high school that as soon as I turned fifteen and if I had good grades I could get a working permit from the state that would allow me to work part-time and this was going to change my life forever. Well it turns out that it did indeed change my life because I was able to purchase the things I needed which made life a little bit less stressful not just for myself but for my parents as well. Now college time arrived and I went to school about an hour and a half away, the next four years of my life really changed me. No one really prepared me on what CREDIT was and how important it is. One major issue with CREDIT companies is that they almost set you up to fail if you don't know just some quick basics and for me not knowing those basics I ruined my credit BIG time when I was in college. So my fundraiser is dedicated to helping teens learn how to keep their money, how to make sure they understand what CREDIT is and how to make their money work for them so they can come out ahead with a fresh, strong, clean CREDIT profile a great plan on how to manage their earnings and most importantly they won't be drowning in debt, receiving calls from collectors threats and before the real challenges of life hit them.
