BENEFITING: International Rescue Committee
Recently, I was able to help a couple families from Uganda, Africa. We donated clothes, gift cards, and sanitary napkins to help make their transition to their new life easier. Before we went to their homes to personally give these refugees what we had collected, I thought I had prepared myself for the poverty that I would see. But I was so wrong. It was absolutely heartbreaking to see young kids in clothes they hadn't taken off for two week, without means to clean themselves, and without proper nourishment. What was even more humbling was that even with the language barrier, these wonderful people couldn't even begin to express their love and thankfulness to us. They taught us a few words in Swahili so we'd be able to communicate the best we could but none of that mattered since the love and gratefulness they showed us was universal. For my fundraiser, my goal is to raise at least $1,000 to give to these families, and other refugees all over San Diego. My hope is that these wonderful people will be able to make their lives in the U.S. as comfortable as possible.
