Helping Hands Assisting Marc Richardson
Organized by: Jason Spigner
After experiencing the beginning of a new Crohn's flare up, Marc placed himself under his physician's care and was approved for Medical Leave and Short Term Disability through his employer. As the inflammation and pain increased with no signs of subsiding, Marc's physician decided a series of infusions would be best in helping to manage Marc's health back to normal. Although Marc's flare up required a series of 4 special non-traditional infusions, everything was approved to be covered by Marc's health insurance through his employer. Imagine how Marc felt on Dec. 4, 2015 when he received an email from his employer they would be closing immediately and all employees would receive their last checks within a few days. Not only was Marc left with the reality of limited physical function but a new reality of discontinued benefits (i.e., short term disability, health insurance) with no option given for employees to purchase COBRA.
Marc was able to receive the 1st in the series of infusions before his insurance expired but was unable to receive the remaining infusions as they needed to be spread over a few weeks. Not only are Marc’s former co-workers seeking some forms of recourse from the former employer but Marc has been applying for many forms of (public and private) assistance to help cover his special form of infusion. He and his family are believing things will soon come together and allow him to get back on track to financial security and improved health. This funding is to help assist Marc stay afloat during the time he is required to wait due to litigation, insurance and benefit applications being processed and delayed through bureaucracy, and reconciling lost short term benefits (income) that have yet to be delivered through the closed employer's disability program.
Marc has been a strong young man through this entire ordeal and has not asked for our support. After seeing Marc's physical condition and truly understanding there are serious current financial GAPs, we asked Marc's permission to ask this giving community to help support him through this tough time. We believe that with the help of many, the burden of one will not be so heavy. Please consider giving a donation to join with other Helping Hands Assisting Marc! May God Bless and Keep You.
