BENEFITING: GESUNDHEIT HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
Gen. Emil Suder of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is raising funds to help Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams realize his dream of a free healthcare clinic for everyone. If you ever watched the movie, Patch Adams, then you know how passionate he is about helping families and especially the children.
After having visited with Patch, Gen. Suder is determined that we can rally together and help Patch realize his dream that has been in the making for years.
The Story of Patch Adams
When Patch was in medical school, he became concerened that medicine was being portrayed and adopted as a "standardization" in which patients became a a product, instead of a person. The spiritual need of laughter and happiness became nonexistent. This concerned Patch because he, at one time, needed much laughter to help him through the difficult times.
Patch came up with the idea of opening a medical clinic to help everyone in need - both medically and spiritually. The Gesundheit! Institute, located in Hillsboro, West Virginia, if completed with the medical center, would help thousands of people in the area who cannot afford medical coverage.
