BENEFITING: MAGICAL THEATRE COMPANY
I have work for Magical Theatre Company in Barberton Ohio for over 10 years. After years of college long, long ago I, as many theatre artist do, set out to make my living in the performing arts. As veteran artists will tell you, making a living in the arts is not easy. Several of my fellow artists have worked on Broadway and in Hollywood. But most performing artist work in regional and community theatre. Many of us, myself included, spend time in between paying gigs "acting" like bookkeepers, or secretaries or caterers, or retail managers, etc, to make ends meet. Hi Ho the glamorous life! In my 40's, inspired by the birth of my daughter, I set out to use my talents to bring to the stage plays and ideas that addressed issues faced by women in our culture. Queen Bee Productions was born. In 2004 I was serving on a local arts organization's board along with Dennis O'Connell, co-producing director of Magical Theatre and he asked me to audition for their upcoming Christmas show. I have been part of the Magical Family ever since. And when I say 'family' I mean it in every sense of the word. Family isn't always blood. Family is the people who claim you, warts and all. Who hold you to a code of respect and fairness and provide that in return. And to have that Magical Family and then to be able to share it with the young people we see both on stage with us or in our audience, well it doesn't get any better than that. Magical Theatre is restoring the 96 year old facility it lives in so it can continue its mission. (You can check out that progress here http://www.magicaltheatre.org/restore-magic/. )They have raised all but $150,000 of the 2 million needed. And I want to help them reach that goal. That's what family does. Please join me by making a donation to this crowdrise effort!
