Helping The Foyer Amis des Jesus
Organized by: Scott McDavid
This past winter I went to Cameroon, in West Africa, to volunteer at an orphanage through The Humanity Exchange (THEX). It was a wonderful experience, with a very loving family that I worked with. Mama Simone is in charge of the house along with a few others who help each and every day. They welcomed me from day one and never before had I felt so loved by so many people.
The kids at the Foyer Amis des Jesus range from a few months old to 14 years old. The kids are able to stay until they are 18, and many go back to visit their brothers and sisters.
Living in Douala is expensive on mama Simone and her husband. The kids all go to different schools, and each varies in expenses and some months it is difficult for them to afford food for the morning. Luckily through the kindness of past volunteers donations of food have been keeping the home supplied. It now being the summer Mama Simone wishes to bring her family to a beach in a nearby area of Kribi as a celebration of the year, and the school year coming to an end. For Mama Simone to be able to afford bringing the whole family to Kribi she needs help. I hope to be able to give her that help she needs. Mama Simone is a god loving woman who brings the family to church each week. She has the biggest heart and is an amazing woman. She loves all, and is loved by all.
