BENEFITING: MIDWIVES FOR HAITI INC
I will be going to Haiti to do some some work with Midwives For Haiti ( MFH ), a great non profit group that educates and provide prenatal care tools to women in remote area of Haiti . They train women to becomes midewifes and serve as skilled birth attendants to pregnant women. Ensuring safe motherhood means healthier children and stronger communities. The lack of skilled obstetrical workers makes Haiti the most dangerous place in the western hemisphere to have a baby. According to World Health Organization Statistics, 670 women die for every 100,000 births.
A while ago I came across an article about the story of a Sudanese pregnant women who had to walk miles while in labor to give birth. She lived in a remote area where there are no clinics or hospital or trained midewifes and this is sadly the reality of millions women living in impoverished country. As I prepare to visit my Obstetician I realized how lucky I am to live in a country where medical facilities are 10 minutes away. Midewifes For Haiti does amazing work training and helping women of Haiti.
