BENEFITING: American Red Cross
In June 2013, there were a series of devastating floods and landslides in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. 5,700 people are presumed dead. Entire villages and towns such as Gaurikand and Ram Bada were swept away by the fury of the floods. These floods caused $110 million worth of property damage. Many people, 100,000 of whom were pilgrims and tourists, were stranded because of the floods. Children have been strongly affected by these floods. Over 1,227 children are missing. 65,000 children have lost their homes, and 250,000 have lost their schools. Thousands of children are also orphaned with no way to support themselves. The initial donations have started dwindling. But has the need for help subsided? Nope! What will happen to these children? Such displaced and orphaned children are at a great risk and desperately need our support. I hope to help these innocent victims of the floods with your kindness and generosity.
