When the unthinkable happens.

Issa Salifou is in need of surgery to repair his intestines from a hernia that he has suffered about a two months ago. Unfortunately, neither he nor his family can afford to pay for it. In 2008, I served for two years as a Community Health Specialist with the US Peace Corps in Benin. I was assigned to a rural maternity clinic in a northern province working on maternal and child health, disease prevention, and water and sanitation issues. It was during my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer that Yacoubou Salifou, an agricultural extension agent, and I met and fell in love. From the very beginning, Yacoubou has always expressed how important his family is to him, especially his parents. Like so many others in the rural parts of Benin, they have worked hard farming land all their lives and do not have much to show for it. Now, that Yacoubou parents are elderly, they cannot work anymore. They have no income and rely on their children to live. Issa Salifou is Yacoubou's father and my future father-in-law. We are seeking help to pay for his medical bills. The money that you donate will go directly to pay for his medical care including medication, surgery and equipment, hospital stay, follow-up care and transportation. We need your help in providing the medical care that my future father-in-law needs. Thank you for your support and generosity!
