Hello everyone! My name is Jacqueline. Next April, I will begin a new chapter in my life in a two semester long language-intensive study program in Tokyo, Japan, at Temple University Japan. I will be in rigorous language courses five days a week, hoping to come back with near-fluency. Those of you who are close to me know how passionate I am about Japanese culture and Japanese history. It’s gotten to the point where it might be a problem... My family sees me every day watching a Japanese movie, or buried in the pages of a Japanese history or language book. This program will not only fulfill my undergraduate language requirements, my dream of living in another country, and the chance to study the culture that I love, but will also propel me towards my broader goal of accomplishing a Masters degree in Asian Culture and Language Study. To get a Masters degree, you must be fluent in a second language, and Japanese is the most practical for me since I hope to do a large portion of my research in Japanese Culture. As I will already be in Japan, I am hoping to have enough money to do some nearby traveling. I will finish my program in July 2018, and would like to spend time in Japan after school is over to work before I start my Master's degree. Being able to start this research process by going to actual sites and accessing different archives would be amazing! One of the sites would be the majestic Mount Fuji. The mountain is a historic landmark and has many shrines along the ascent up to the summit. Fuji san, as the mountain is commonly known, is one of the first places of cultural heritage that I plan to visit in order to gain more insight about the importance of the area. I do not like asking for money from people, but the expenses of this trip unfortunately make it necessary. I currently work full time at a non profit organization (and I don't make that much) and go to school full time while taking care of my elderly mother and my son who suffers from Sickle Cell Disease. That’s where you come in. As I mentioned before, I come from extremely modest means and though my family would like to help me financially they simply cannot afford to. The cost to fund my university fees and living expenses during this academic year semester period is about $13,800.00 ( I mentioned 1 semester before because I wanted to break it up). I humbly ask that you donate whatever your heart desires, every penny counts. Thank you in advance! My studies are a priority to me, on top of working to survive and I take school seriously while also having fun learning about topics I am fascinated by. But the sad thing is, I don’t get paid for studying and learning, quite the opposite! Your donation will mean more to me than you can understand. Studying abroad has been a dream of mine since high school. After going many difficult years, I finally have the time to finish what I started years ago. I've worked hard to get to this point and the opportunity to transfer from Temple University in Philadelphia to Temple University Japan presented itself at the perfect time, and all the pieces have fallen into place since then, to the point where it has felt like fate has been pushing me along to this moment. If you choose to make a donation, it will be going towards: · The cost of the program (tuition, dorm fees, etc) · Airfare · Transportation around Japan . Food and travel expenses It is important to me to convey that this money is NOT going towards frivolous expenses, but towards essential and necessary costs for me to go on this trip. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you choose to donate, I cannot express my appreciation for your help in allowing me to fund my dream heavily enough, words cannot convey my gratitude! As an added incentive, who ever sends me a donation, I'll make sure to send something awesome from Japan! More information on the program can be found here:
