One of my dearest childhood friends, David, who I have known for over two decades, was diagnosed with malignant brain cancer about one year ago. At the time of diagnosis David underwent emergency surgery and had a tumor removed. The prognosis was dismal and the doctors believed the odds of surviving were fifteen percent. He has been actively performing physical, occupational, and various other specialized therapies. David also has been prescribed chemotherapy as well. Despite signs of improvement throughout the process he has also had some rough patches and setbacks. The most recent type of chemotherapy David received caused hemorrhaging in his lower intestant. At this time, David has lost his capacity to communicate orally, but he shows his passion to live.
I am starting a non-profit organization to raise money for cancer research. I have identified the the Cancer Research Institute as one of the primary recipients of my fundraising efforts.
My goal is to participate in Race Across America (RAAM) in June of 2016. Through participating, I will raise money for cancer research and ride in honor of my childhood friend David. The journey will be documented and David's story will be shared. Along with starting a non-profit organization I will be seeking out corporate sponsors who would like to share an opportunity to be involved for a great cause.
