The center is a place of belonging for thousands of people from different countries and cultures. Our work has been recognized thru Citations, Proclamations by many officials from The City of New Rochelle, The County of Westchester, and The State of New York; On 2014 Jackeline Agudelo received the Humanitarian Award on 2014 Women of Excellence by The New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.
UCCW offers the ideal space to hosting large informational sessions and to fostering collaborative learning that incorporates digital literacy, also, creating enrichment on cultural arts, social services, community advocacy, and educational opportunities. Through these activities and programs, we encourage and empower members of the community to create abundant lives. Our programs fall into six distinct areas: Food Security, Financial Inclusion, Legal remedies, Referrals, Educational Empowerment and Health and Wellness.
Every year we assist thousands of people and this is mainly done by the help of volunteers and professionals. Your contribution is crucial to us, we are in need of funds due to County budget cuts and the expiration of a grant-contract, your help will be use to secured funds for general and administrative related expense.
Why help us?
We are a trusted organization that takes our mission seriously and we do the job by making it easier for the emotionally bruised clients to navigate the social service system without having them going in circles, retelling their needs and by:
Helping women who are spiritually physically broken due to issues of domestic violence, we assist them with the information of all the resources available, one and one guidance to be saved and a monthly support group to raise awareness.
Assisting displaced senior citizens into affordable housing, not only getting them into a permanent place to call home, but also providing them with furniture and other decorative accessories for their new apartments. This is done to ensure their wellbeing and happiness.
We do everything possible to make children happy and keeping them healthy by assisting their parents in obtaining free or low cost health insurance, school placement, summer tutoring program, painting classes, piano lessons, a back to school event to help them with school supplies every year, and the Christmas event where we provide over 400 toys to the disadvantaged children in our community.
A client is in need of food or home goods donation? We have it!
Every day we give emergency food and home good donations to the needy people who are facing unemployment, Eviction, domestic violence and low income families that are pending benefits.
We know the time it takes for a family in need to obtain help from social service agencies. This is why we have a small food pantry that is used for emergency situations only.
We offer English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship Instructions and application assistance, U.S. history and government instruction to prepare permanent residents for the naturalization interview, basic computer skills, informative workshops on immigration laws changes and much more.
Every year we do a Turkey and Food Drive helping over 300 low income families with lack in funds to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.
Many Day Laborers and Domestic workers become an easy target for abuse and exploitation; we offer them a helping hand, a trusting place they can rely on by assisting them with collection of unpaid wages, mediation, and safety at work trainings to reduce job injuries.
