Of the many things that I love, two of them are literacy and service. Beyond my own personal passion, is a love for engaging youth in both of these activities (especially at once!). This is why I am raising money for Indykids! IndyKids is a free and progressive newspaper created to teach youth about current events and inspire a passion for social justice. Created by kids and for kids, the IndyKids publication provides youth reporters and writers ages 9-12, with the space, training, and support to investigate the world around them through journalism, while also giving their peers, who read the magazine, an age-appropriate and engaging tool for learning about the world. In addition to the newspaper, the Indykids website features interactive activities and lessons for students, group leaders and teachers.
Why am I raising money?
After seven years, Indykids is currently in jeopardy of shutting down for the 2012-2013 school year due to a serious lack of funding. As a teacher who frequently used the publication in my own classroom, I have seen the power of this project first hand and want to help keep it alive.
