Help Kelly return to Ecuador
Organized by: kelly miles
Volunteering is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding things you can do with your most precious commodity, time. While volunteering is free, life is not. I have been going back and forth from Ecuador to the united states for almost two years now, and have supported myself up until this point. However even working several jobs in the states doesn't allow me to return to Ecuador quickly. I am anxious to get back within 3 months so that I can continue to volunteer my time to others. This is what life is all about for me, helping people who have less than some of us can even imagine. I will be living in a " town" in the region of Esmeraldas up the Cayapas river about 2 hours by canoe, there is no running water and the nearest hospital is nearly 4 hrs away. Many people there can not read and some of them are of indigenous descent and speak a native language called Cha'palaa. In volunteering you get to understand and love the people in the community. I have found the people of Ecuador to be deeply hospitable and all have a thirst for knowledge, but not many resources available to them. Instances of spousal abuse, child abuse and family problems can be high in areas of poor education and isolation. Gaining friendships and living in the community you are able to provide social help along with teaching illiterate ones how to read, all free of charge. Please help me get back to Ecuador quickly, there is so much work yet left to do! all proceeds will go towards a plane ticket and general day to day expenses such as food and lodging. some may also go towards canoe transportation as the location I live in is very remote and there are no roads. Thank you for your time, and I hope you can be a part of my return to Ecuador!
