To Whom It May Concern:

My name is John Waldon, and I am a Language Arts teacher at LaFayette High School in LaFayette, Georgia, and the current Key Club Advisor. During my high school years, I was an active Key Club member and fondly remember my time of service. I have been given the opportunity to help others experience what it means to be a member of Key Club and the importance of selflessly giving to and serving others.

This past year, we have participated in several volunteer functions and have logged over 1300 service hours. Among the service opportunities, the students volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House Fall Festival, played Santa for students at Walker County Head Start, participated in packing 96,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children, and the students even spent three days of their two-week Christmas break volunteering for Harvest Ministries in Dalton, Georgia, where we fed the less fortunate. We also raised money for a former student who has been battling cancer, assisted in painting a house for the Mountain Top Boys Home, and raised money and awareness for world hunger relief by participating in the 30 Hour Famine. This school year, we plan to volunteer even more community service hours.

The reason for this letter is this: The Key Club International Convention will be held in Anaheim, California, next summer, and my goal is to send ten students as representatives of LaFayette High School, without them or their families having to shoulder the financial burden. At the convention, the students will attend leadership seminars, attend caucuses in which they will be prepared to vote for international-level officers, and meet other students their age from around the world. This is a great opportunity for our students at LaFayette High School, our future community leaders, to learn firsthand about governance, global community leadership, and authentic and effective teamwork. The cost of the trip will be around $1,150 per student, and the students will be in Anaheim for one week during July 4th. If you would like to contribute to this amazing opportunity for our students, sponsor a student as a scholarship, or if you need any volunteers for upcoming events and functions, please notify me.

If you would like to make a donation, you may make out a check to the LHS Key Club, and mail it to: 100 Rambler Drive, LaFayette, Georgia, 30728.

Thanks in advance for your consideration,
