EVENT DATE: Jun 29, 2012
I was planning on doing a Human Rights Summer Program in Buenos Aires, Argentina this coming Summer 2012.
Unfortunately, since I did not receive a scholarship, the study abroad program is on hold for the moment. I am currently seeking help to cover the rest of my program expenses. The University of South Florida's (USF) Education Abroad Office is unable to provide me with any funding and I am currently seeking other forms of support from private organizations but, as an international student, my possibilities for funding are quite limited.
I plan on focusing my Master's thesis on the violation of the human rights of prisoners in Venezuela and I believe that going to Argentina over the summer would be of great benefit to my research. The Human Rights Program offered by the USF's Education Abroad Office would allow me to deepen my knowledge on human rights while also gain first-hand experience in the human rights field by interning with a human rights organization. In particular, I found a human rights organization headquartered in Buenos Aires, whose work focuses on promoting the rights of Argentine prisoners. Interning for this organization (Center for Legal and Social Studies, CELS) would allow me to see how human rights law can directly be applied to the life situations of prisoners. Furthermore, CELS would be a great source of knowledge and guidance for the development of my thesis on the violation of the human rights of prisoners.
Through this research I hope to prove that Venezuela’s current penitentiary crisis is just a consequence of an inherited and inept penal system; and since the conditions of prisons throughout Latin America seem to suggest a common problem: overcrowding, my country specific research could lead to a broader understanding and further research on the deficiencies in the penal/penitentiary systems throughout Latin America.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions by phone 908-239-2521 or by e-mail email@example.com. I can most definitely provide you with my thesis proposal as well as with a past project that led me to my thesis topic.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
