Help make a Student's Dream come true
Organized by: Justin Park
Hi everyone! So recently I got accepted into Emory University, which has always been a dream of mine to attend. I have always imagined myself studying Biology at the school and later attending medical school there.
However, when I received my financial aid statement, I was not qualified to receive any financial aid. This was a traumatic experience for me to hear that what I have worked so hard for in the past 12 years in school is something that I was close to attain but blocked by the obstacle of reality.
Even though our family is unqualified to receive any financial aid, we have been going through so much financial difficulties over the past couple of years. My dad received surgery to treat his spinal disc herniation, and because of this my mom has had to work overtime. After my father's medical leave, he cannot work full time anymore because his body is no longer in the condition it used to be. Also, my dad works as a dental lab technician. I've learned that this career field is generally declining in favor of machinery and equipment to do the job. This means less pay and a potential layoff for my dad, which could result in devasting financial loss for us. Growing up in the United States as an immigrant family, we have never been able to invest in any savings or receive benefits, and thus our family has had to pay every single cent of taxes and expenses. We had to sacrifice so many opportunities to maintain financial stability in our family, and the fact that I may have to let go something that meant so much to me for these past 12 years is truly heartbreaking.
CrowdRise is now the only hope I hold onto so I can lean towards a future in Emory where I hope to receive both a bachelor's and a Doctorate of Medicine and accomplish my dream of helping the people through surgery. I thank you so much for taking your time reading my story, donations of any form or size are greatly appreciated. I am so pleased to know that there are people out in the world who care so much to invest in my efforts to help those who are in need of medical and emotional help. Thank you for investing in my future.
