Hello, my name is David ORourke. I am a 55 year old man, living in a homeless shelter in Bloomington, Illinois. I taught college level English courses in China for 7.5 years. I am very proud that I chose to live and work in China. There are now about 4,500 young Chinese college graduates and students who have a more favorable opinion of America after being my students than they had before being my students. My time in mainland China allowed me to serve my country as an unofficial ambassador. In the spring of 2014 I contracted a virus. Upon recovery from the virus, it was found I had heart damage causing congestive heart failure, cardio myopathy and pronounced atrial fibrillation. I struggled, unable to work, for the following year to recover my health. During this time I remained in China without working and without medical insurance. With my funds exhausted, I returned to the USA, enrolled in medicaid and moved into a homeless shelter. I have now been in a shelter for 4 months, and have been receiving treatment. My condition has improved enough that I should be able to return to a job in China. I have no money. I could apply for disability, move into public housing and continue to have my medical expenses covered by taxpayers. Or, I can spend whatever time remains for me continuing to serve my country by teaching the future leaders of China. I need money for a new passport and visa. I need money for an air ticket. I need some money for a few clothes suitable for teaching (I lost many of my possessions when I had to return to the USA). I need enough funds to last until my first payday. I need money to buy at least a 90 day supply of my medicines. This should give enough time to find out where to get these medicines in China. I feel hopeless here. I loved the work I was doing before becoming sick. If my years remaining are few, please help me to continue contributing to this world, not being a burden upon it. Thank You. David
