I'm going to YEA camp this summer for a week in the Santa Cruz mountains.
I was awarded a $200 scholarship (meaning the rest of the tuition $775 was covered). But to support other future campers like me, I will have to raise the $775 back.
I need your help.
YEA camp is a leadership camp for teens who want to make a difference in the world through activism in community service and social justice.
Your not donating to me as an individual but rather to our generation of youth who are challenging society's boundaries for the better.
In my understanding YEA camp will not only be one of the most educating experiences of peoples lives but the starting point to creating healthier environments and safer communities.
The youth who attend all have a cause in mind that they want to work on supporting or starting.
I didn't choose my cause. I knew what I wanted to advocate years before my decision to go to YEA camp.
It was autism awareness.
My younger sister has autism and my experiences with the disability was frustrating but made my world clearer.
I want to one day create a program for schools and public events to spread awareness. It comes as a surprise to me that most people my age still ask ''What is it''? I want to change that.
I want to someday see autistic people of any age be understood without explanation to anyone.
Without understanding or being aware, it can be an outcome of bullying and being degraded.
It's not hard to understand. But to just be aware for diversity of any sort is something that needs to be taught. And through education, that is the answer.
I want my sister to be accepted. And the first step is a community that accepts.
Simple as that.
Please donate whatever you can and support YEA camp for change!
