Help me get to $0!
Organized by: Ashley Conway
I have resorted to asking for help from the kindness of others because I don't know where else to turn. I recently graduated from a college back in my home state of MA called Wentworth with a degree in Construction Management. During my time in college my parents weren’t able to help me pay for my schooling due to their own financial troubles as well as having another child to take care of. I know to succeed now a days you have to have a college degree of some sort, so even though I was aware I would be taking out quite a few loans I never knew it would add up so quick. I ended up graduating with $110,000 in student loan debt. Having this cloud of massive student loan debt following me where ever I go and making it extremely hard for me to see a future including a home one day is suffocating. I pay roughly around $1000 a month leaving me with not much left to pay for rent and groceries. There is a lot of times where my fridge will be empty for a few months at a time. I try my best to save what little change I can but it has become near impossible, especially since my boyfriend who I live with just graduated two months ago with a Master’s Degree and $160,000 in student loan debt. We talk about a future together and how wonderful it will be but it’s really hard for us to stay positive when sometimes we go hungry for a few days. Like mentioned before I have nowhere else to turn, neither one of our families are well off by any means and can hardly support them selves. I was the first to graduate from college in my family and I try to be proud of that but sometimes I question whether or not it was worth it because now I can't afford to even start saving for a future. If you can't afford to help me but have read this far, thank you. I hope that my story can at least spread awareness to people at how outrageously expensive something as crucial as education has become in this country. It is becoming impossible for people to educate themselves which in return makes for a more educated community and then an educated country. Knowledge is everything but shouldn’t cost people everything. Thank you!
