THE STORY:

The Wilderness First Responder course is designed to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Learning takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. The classrooms lectures and demonstrations are combined with realistic scenarios where mock patients will challenge me to integrate my learning. The course is 80 hours in length and a wide range of topics will be covered such as; patient assessment system, CPR, spinal cord injuries to head injuries. wound management, shock, altitude illness, bites, stings and poisoning, search and rescue, the list goes on and on.
With my WFR's certification I will be able to pursue a job being a leader in Wilderness Therapy. Here I will be able to use my skills to lead children who are at risk on backpacking adventures.Graham Shannonhouse established Trails in 2008 to deliver upon the promise of wilderness therapy- to create lasting change in the behaviors of teens. The Trails teams devised an innovative model focused on three beliefs that have driven the programming decisions.
" 1. we believe that a wilderness setting enhances the benefits of therapy.
2. We believe that practicing and applying the lessons learned in wilderness to everyday situations promotes lasting change.
3. We believe that families benefit from being involved in their child's process. "

I have a strong passion for working with children as well as a strong connection to nature and all that it has done for me. By completing the WFR's certification course I will gain the knowledge I need to be a Leader in the wilderness as well as receive the prerequisites I need to pursue a career where I can combine these passions together. So, Please, help me help others!!
