Mom had a stroke the day before Christmas. She's in Virginia.
I'm Mom's guardian and have been since 1996, and I am in Kansas.
I need your help to help Mom recover. I need your help to see Mom. I need your help to bring Mom back to Kansas and continue to see after her needs.
Mom has been twice diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia and twice with Bi Polar. She needs a delicate balance of medication and contact with family and friends. She needs these things on a daily basis. And now, we complicate matters with the effects of a stroke.
Mom's been sick since I was about 10. I became her guardian when I was 35. I'm now 52 and she's 76.
I work 3 part time jobs, still barely making ends meet. The airfare to see Mom this week (Wichita to Richmond) is just under $1000.00. I have about $100 to my name.
Before her stroke, I was ok with Mom in VA and me in KS because she has a lot of family within about 90 miles of Richmond. Now, though, I find myself unable to reach Mom via phone (there are only 2 portable phones in the rehab hospital) and am even having trouble reaching her nurses. Her family is gaining in age and 90 miles from her hospital and care home. They rarely are able to visit.
I want to bring Mom back to Kansas and get her the help she needs and have daily contact with her. I want Mom to be "looked after and taken care of." I don't want her worrying and wondering. I want to be there for her.
Moving her and seeing that her Medicare makes the trip from VA to KS will be time consuming and expensive--but so worth it in the long run. Besides me, she has friends in Kansas and 3 grandsons as well.
Short term, I need to be able to get to Virginia and see that Mom has everything she needs to recover. Long term, I want to move her back to Kansas so I can be there for her. Both are expensive items. To me, this seems like a 2-tiered project.
1500 miles between us and sketchy phone systems are not the way to bring her back to health! I truly need your help to do this! I plead with you to "Help Me Help Mom."
