Help Melissa Fight Hepatic Encephalopathy
Organized by: Cora Johnson
My dear friend Melissa has hepatic encephalopathy, which is brain damage caused by the liver's inability to remove toxins from the body. She needs a medication called Xifaxan to do the liver's job, but Xifaxan costs $2000 for a month's supply. Her husband was laid off from the company he'd been working for for 15 years, so they are in a tough spot financially. Melissa has no insurance, and she's run out of Xifaxan. She's been going to the emergency room more and more frequently the last few months, since she has no medication to control the damage. She's been forced to go ask for samples of the medication from doctor's offices just to cope. Hepatic encephalopathy has four stages, with the fourth stage being a coma most people rarely wake up from, and eventually die from. She is in stage three. I want to help raise money for Melissa to get more Xifaxan and to help pay some of her emergency room bills. She has two sons who are not even halfway through high school yet. No one should have to lose their mother at that age. Please help Melissa and her family by donating. Every donation helps, no matter how small. Thank you. I currently have no photos of Melissa, but will add one as soon as I can.
