Colorado has a beautiful short-grass prairie system. Our eastern plains are the home of amazing wildlife like tarantulas, bobcats, pronghorn, swift fox, prairie dogs, and more. The short grass prairie is in need of help. It's over grazed, over worked, and under protected. I need your help to preserve enough of this gorgeous eco-system to support our song-birds, turtles, badgers, raptors, canids, felids, all of our amazing wildlife.
I have worked as a volunteer for the Southern Plains Land Trust for over a decade. I have helped the organization protect thousands of acres of Colorado's stunning prairie grasslands. The Southern Plains Land Trust preserves land for wildlife, creating a safe wildlife corridor for the myriad of creatures that live on the plains. We purchase land that has been over-grazed and let it return to it's natural state. We put easements on land that protects it in perpetuity (forever) creating a forever home for the mnay species that call Colorado their home.
During my tenure as a volunteer I have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Southern Plains Land Trust. I have helped protect thousands of acres of Colorado grassland. I have patrolled our borders during hunting season to make sure we have no hunting tresspass, I have built and repaired fences to keep grazing cattle off of our recovering lands, and I have helped plan and run our yearly fundraisers.
Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with a chronic, intractable, medical migraine condition. It's been a year since I have been without a headache. Due to the nature of my headaches I can no longer hold a traditional job. I need to work primarily from home. I also no longer have the energy to work and volunteer.
I want to continue to make a positive impact in the world. I need help.
I want to work for the Southern Plains Land Trust. I want to use my many talents to help the organization with fundraising support, social media outreach, volunteer coordination, community outreach and education, land management, legal review, and more. Please help me come on board to save Colorado wildlife as a paid staff member.
I can work from home most of the time writing grants, researching funding opportunities, and running our social media campaigns. I can do this amazing work even with my disability.
If funded I will create a personal blog to report on my progress with the Southern Plains Land Trust. I will post pictures of the animals we see through our remote camera programs and volunteer sightings. I will keep you informed as to the good your donation is doing with a weekly update.
I can't tell you how hard it has been letting go of so many parts of my life for the past year. Thank you for helping me keep hold of such a vital piece of who I am.
