Help Myanmar: Flood Relief Fund
Organized by: Help Myanmar Flood Relief Fund
Myanmar is facing its worst flooding in decades, with 12 out of 14 states affected and four declared ‘national disaster zones’. Devastating monsoon rains have now affected more than 1 million people and the death toll has reached 100 (as of August 10th); it is expected these figures will continue to rise. The floods have destroyed houses, farmland, rice stocks, railway lines, bridges, and roads. Stricken communities will require long-term help to rebuild homes and restore livelihoods.
Our aim is to assist flood victims directly on the ground by providing essential emergency supplies, including water, food, medicine, clothes, hygiene kits and water purification tablets. Once the flood waters recede, our focus will be on helping to contribute to the long-term recovery. We have already distributed supplies to Min Hla and Moe Myo in Bago division and want to continue and strengthen our efforts to help those in need. We invite you to donate to our fund so that we can maintain and strengthen our efforts to help those in need.
Who are we?
We are a community of volunteers from Yangon, Myanmar - friends and colleagues (see our profile picture for just some of our faces!) - who have come together to help the flood victims. Our planning, logistics, fundraising initiatives, and operations, are undertaken independently.
What do we do?
We distribute essential supplies to flood victims, including water, food, medicine, clothes, hygiene kits and water purification tablets. We distribute to communities where we have contacts; they let us know where assistance is required and practicable for us (i.e. we do not have the facility to airdrop supplies to otherwise inaccessible locations). Looking ahead beyond the immediate relief required, we are fundraising so that we can help rebuild the livelihoods and communities damaged by the floods.
Why donate to us?
We are a local group that works directly on the ground; we have established relationships with contacts in local authorities so we are able to deliver supplies directly to flood victims ourselves quickly and efficiently. 100% of all donations to our fund are spent on supplies and their transportation to affected areas.
