THE STORY:

My daughter is 14 years old, and was diagnosed with juvenile psoriatic arthritis at age 5. She has been on numerous medications during the past 9 years, but has continued to become more severely impacted in the past 2 years. Starting in January 2014, she began having small patches of psoriasis on her arms. Fast forward to today, where even with aggressive treatment, she has lost almost 1/2 of her hair, all of her finger/toe nails are disfigured (pitted), and she has psoriasis over most of her body. She has a weakened immune system due to the medications she takes, and has fought severe bacterial infections and cellulitis in her feet. She has missed several days of school this year due to not being able to walk, it is hard for her to use her wheelchair, as the skin on her hands is also damaged, and she has little feeling in her fingertips. She is unable to open water bottles, soda cans, bags of snacks, and cannot zip pants, do buttons or tie her own shoes. She wants to get a wig, as she is in high school, and is tired of being made fun of. She had been going to acupuncture, which helped with joint pain, but is not covered by insurance, and we just can't afford it. Our insurance plan has an $8000 deductible, $4000 for prescriptions, $4000 for medical...we owe almost that whole amount towards the MRI,, bloodwork and treatment she has had just this month, never mind the close to $50,000 we already owe the hospital. I know arthritis is something most people associate with old people, not teenagers...my sweet Elena has already lost so much of her childhood, please consider donating to make her life less challenging. She needs clothes that are soft, shoes she can walk in, a new bed/mattress, and a better wheelchair. I would love to have her go to acupuncture again, and possibly try light therapy, but right now we need help to make any of this possible!!
