BENEFITING: U.S. Fund for UNICEF
Nepal needs our help now.
"The U.N. children's agency, UNICEF, says nearly 1 million children in Nepal need help. UNICEF says it is preparing two cargo flights with a combined 120 tons of humanitarian supplies including medical and hospital supplies, tents and blankets, for urgent airlift to Kathmandu."
Rescue crews and residents in Nepal are desperately searching for survivors after a magnitude-7.8 earth quake has slammed the congested capital city of Kathmandu (1 million in population).
The earthquake was the strongest in the last 80 years while an estimated 4.6 million in the region were exposed to the tremors. These tremors were felt as far as New Delhi, India - more than 200 miles away.
Homes have been flattened, building and temples crumbled, ancient landmarks destroyed, centuries old palaces are now rubble, widespread damage across the region.
The death toll of 3,200 is expected to rise as the full extent of the damage is assessed. With every minute the situation is becoming worse.
The SF Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon and NYC Triathlon that I have been training for are now dedicated to Nepal - every lap swam, every mile run and cycled will be for Nepal.
