BENEFITING: HELP ONE CHILD MISSION TO CHILDREN AT RISK
EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2015
Every child deserves a safe family. Sometimes they just need a helping hand. Won’t you reach out and help?
Gloria could not say no when Child Protective Services (CPS) asked her to take in her 5 grandchildren when her daughter’s parental rights were terminated. Already hard-pressed to make ends meet, she found herself needing a surgical procedure with an extended hospital stay and at-home recovery. Who would take care of her grandchildren?
While many of us in her situation would have called upon our family and friends to step in, Gloria did not have such a safety net. Most of us assume that Gloria could have turned to state welfare agencies for support, but unfortunately, most are overwhelmed and underfunded, limiting them to providing services only to children who have suffered blatant abuse or neglect.
Therefore, cases such as Gloria’s are left with no resources. Without support, isolation prevails and problems become debilitating. It is in these high-stress environments that children are often overlooked and become at risk of abuse and neglect.
Help One Child has been a non-profit outreach to at-risk children both in and out of the foster care system in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties for over 20 years. Now, as the local sponsor of the National Safe Families for Children movement, we offer families such as Gloria’s a unique solution.
Each family in need is evaluated and a service team created that includes willing volunteers from local church communities and a Host Famliy as needed to provide families who are experiencing temporary crisis with safe and hopeful options.
The Goals of Safe Families for Children:
- Child Welfare Deflection
- Child Abuse Prevention
- Family Support and Stabilization
A remarkable 85% of families in the Safe Families for Children movement come back together often in the most stable environments they have ever known.
Donate today to Help One Child and help prevent child abuse and provide much needed resources to parents facing personal crisis!
