Help Our Mom Save Her House
Organized by: Alejandra Cobos
Our father received his 5th DWI a few days ago. My mother believed he could get help for his alcoholism, and so did we. However, believing isn’t enough when the alcoholic only loves the drink, and we finally learned he could not get better. My mother has finally filed for divorce, leaving us in a huge financial burden. My mother also filed for bankruptcy, and she is forced to give up her house in 2 months. My name is Alejandra Cobos, and my little sister Iliana and I are desperate to help her. Our oldest sister has a family of her own, and is helping all she can, but it's not enough. Iliana and I are both college students, and Iliana suffers from depression and PTSD from my dad’s alcoholism. She had to leave a very prestigious liberal arts college (that she was attending on a financial need scholarship) when this struggle became too much to bear. Our father was a great father when he was sober, yet the alcohol controlled his life, his personality, and his family’s future when he drank. Alcohol took our father away from us, and now, his actions led to our lives being ripped into shreds. He was a violent man when drunk, and to this day, we pay the price. My mother is absolutely devastated that her house will be gone… she refuses to decorate for Christmas, she cannot afford Christmas gifts, and she comes home every day with tears in her eyes knowing her home will be nothing more than a bitter memory. We don’t want anything else but to help her save her home.
