BENEFITING: Rebuild Vizag Organization
Our beautiful hometown Vizag the City of Destiny has been devastated by Cyclone Hudhud and 80% of the city has to be rebuilt!
Friends and fellow sons & daughters of Vizag, this is the time to show the love for your hometown. For many of us who came to the US and other countries all over the world from Vizag looking for educational and career related opportunities decades ago, the nostalgia associated with our growing years in this beautiful city still brings chills. Who can forget the childhood years by the beautiful Beach Road, the bike rides with the ocean breeze in your hair (when you had some!), the delicious beach roadside food carts, Waltair club, Andhra University, GITAM, Rishikonda, First Hill, Dolphins Nose, and countless other places that live in your memories and we keep going back to Vizag every year or as often as we can, not just for our loving parents and families but for “Vizag”!
Well, the fury of nature has taken a toll on our beloved hometown and we have to do something. We are so far away it NOT an excuse. I am creating this group to serve as a forum to connect fellow Vizag friends and their families across the world to share information, ideas and possible raise funds in a transparent manner to help with the rebuilding process. This will be a long process but we can use the power of social media like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc which has already helped countless people stay in touch in these last few horrendous days where some of us did not get to speak to our parents for 48 hours or more. I have created a Crowdrise website where you can also join in to help with the rebuilding of Vizag.
The City of Destiny will be rebuilt and it will come out like a shining star, yet again! Please do your part…
Folks, we have seen an overwhelming response so far with friends from all over the world joining, participating in the discussion, sharing the group with their friends and putting their money where their money where their mouth is! However, there are some that have questions… valid questions and important ones so please read the FAQ below if it will help alleviate some of your concerns and remove the barriers for you to contribute! I am open to suggestions and will add more as I get ideas from the groups…
1. Can only US Residents contribute to the cause?
Anyone with a credit card from all over the world can contribute.
2. Is the online payment process secure?
We are using CrowdRise, one of the most popular online platforms to raise funds for causes like this. Please refer to their website’s FAQ for payment security and transparency of the donation collecting process:
3. What is the plan for the funds collected?
We have seen friends from all over the world come together like never before and we have several volunteers to help with and take key leadership roles to develop a clear and transparent strategy for collecting the funds and determining the best possible way to provide aid where needed the most and to ensure that your contribution makes the biggest impact. Of course, all of you are welcome to provide suggestions and ideas but our vision is to cut out the middleman and deliver the benefit directly to the needy.
4. Do you have to list my name in the CrowdRise Donation website?
No, when you click on the Donate button, you will have an option to select “Don't display my name on campaign page’ so that you will be able to donate anonymously. If you do not want to show the amount you have an option to select “Hide Amount”. You have the option to show or hide both the name and amount.
Please do not hesitate to give and give generously as no donation will be considered small… give with a big heart!
