Help Rudy pay for Tuition
Organized by: Andrew Darmawan
EVENT DATE Jun 30, 2015
My name is Dwi Rudy Ardianto. I am a Mathematics teacher who teaches at Lentera Harapan School (SLH) in Lampung, Indonesia. It is a school under the Pelita Harapan Educational Foundation (YPPH). This year is the last year I will teach at SLH as I have been given the opportunity from YPPH to continue my graduate studies at Calvin College, USA. I thank God for this opportunity. I have been given a partial scholarship to study at Calvin.
I still am responsible for raising about $ 4,000 USD. That is my problem. I have no money to pay for it as my parents are facing financial difficulties. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last July and has already undergone 12 chemotherapies. My parents’ income from their jobs is not enough to be used as payment for my mother’s chemotherapies and treatment. There actually was a plan to sell our house but it did not happen, my parents have kept borrowing money from our family and neighbours and so they have many outstanding debts.
Talking about my desire to study in Calvin, honestly it is all about God’s calling in my life.I have loved Mathematics since I was 7 until now and that is why I became a Mathematics teacher. Moreover, I have always had a dream to get my graduate degree and become Mathematics lecturer. Finally, I have a burden in the area of the Christian education curriculum in Indonesia. It exceeds my love of Mathematics because I cannot refuse this calling from God.
My burden in curriculum development is to make Christ preeminent in my teaching, not only through class morning devotion or student's chapel. These activities are good, but what I see is that many Christian schools make it a routine thing to do and are not intentional about it. They are “Christian” only in name with their secular teaching and curriculum which are no different from non-Christian schools that only give secular knowledge in preparing the students to work and be successful without introducing Christ. I must beware when saying this, because I believe not all Christian schools are doing this but in general this is a real thing and this is what I experienced while I taught in a few Christian schools.
I truly have a burden for the implementation of the Christian worldview curriculum in schools. I really want to be involved in evangelism in school through true doctrine. Evangelism to students in schools is the most important thing to do for us as Christian educators and we can see that the school is one of the perfect places for evangelism.
I hope there is some financial aid for me to lighten my parents’ burden because once again the amount of cost put on my family is a big burden. This is my condition and I am happy to share it with you. All glory to Him.
