Help Sam March DCI 2016
Organized by: Sam Oduche
Hey Guys!! My name is Sam Oduche. I have recently been given a chance to audition for the 2016 DCI corps Crossmen! Its always been a dream of mine to pursue a higher level of music and marching and now that I've been given this opportunity, I'm determined to see it through. To the people who don't know, Drum Corps International (DCI) is a non-profit youth organization for the performing arts. Similar to marching band, but there are no woodwinds and it takes place throughout the summer. Personally, I was sold by no woodwinds( just kidding... Kinda). Members are starting from 16 until you age out at 21. Every summer these groups compete across the country leading up to the finals competition. In October of 1974, the 507 Hornets and Keystone Regiment merged in the outskirts of Pennsylvania to form what is now Crossmen. Since then, Crossmen have grown to become a perennial Drum Corps International (DCI) World Champion Finalist, reaching DCI Finals 23 times in the corps’ nearly 40-year history. I am currently a high school senior at Lamar Consolidated High school working to attend Texas A&M next fall semester to major in computer engineering and minor in music. By being a part of this organization, I will have the opportunity to receive outstanding instruction from a well-known staff, tour the United States, and meet people from all walks of life that share the same passion that I do. This experience will promote life lessons such as: dicipline, perseverance, independence, and collaboration. Everything that I take away from this experience will assist me in becoming the finest role model I can be forn others in my situation. One of my duties as a member of the organization is to pay a tuition of $2900. This will cover everything from food, uniforms, equipment, instruments, housing, and most inportnatly, transportation. This summer our organization will take part in over 30 competitions, traveling nearly 15,000 miles coast to coast over a period of 70 days. ANY donation big or small will help me on my journey, Thank you very much.
