Organized by: Maria Nesterenko
Vitaliy Shapoval was born on April 5th 1994 in the village named Gelmiazov near Cherkasy city, Ukraine. When he was only 18 months old he was diagnosed with pyelonephritis, a so called kidney infection. When he was 2 years old he underwent his first surgery on his ureters. Ever since he became a regurlar patient of urology department of the hospital. At age 18 his health suddenly had a turn for the worse. He was diagnosed with the 5th degree chronic pyelonephritis and chronic renal failure. His life became dependant on hemodialysis. Vitaliy has to undergo this painfull procedure every other day to be able to stay alive. But unfortunately as a result of the frequancy of the hemodialysis during the last 3 years of his life Vitaliy’s health turned for the worse again. His hemoglobin which is a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body is very low. He was in the hospital for 3 months but the treatment didn’t bring any positive results. To be able stay alive he needs an urgent kidney transplantation. Unfortunately because of the medical incompetibility his close relatives can not be his donors. And according to Ukraiunian law a kidney transplantation from donors who are not the relatives of the patient is almost impossible. A surgery overseas will cost about 150 000 $. But the number is too high to be able to raise only in Ukraine. The money that were donated by his family and friends are not enough to cover the surgery cost. Despite all his health problems Vitaliy is trying as much as he can to fight the disease and live a normal life. He was a good student at high school and is very talented . Music is his devotion he uses to escape his gloomy reality where he gets his inspiration to stay strong no matter what. Vitaliy finished a music school. He plays accordion very well. After that he didn’t stop his music passage and entered Cherkasy music college. His dream was to become a professional accordion player. Unfortunately because of the disease he was not able to accomplish his dream. But Vitaliy didn’t loose hope and he graduated the music college but he was able to get a degree only as a choir conducter. And only when he had enough physical strength and energy Vitaliy once in a while was able to play his favourite accordion. Vitaliy can also play paino, guitar and flute. He has a very diverse personality. He is very smart and has a lot of hobbies. He likes to read a lot especially adventures and historical books. He likes sports and despite all his health issues he still tries to stay active. His dream is to get a second education and become a programmer. Vitaliy is very social and has a lot of good friends. He is very kind, reliable and responsible person. Despite of all his own health problems he tries to stay positive and he is always ready to help others and is very compassionate. I admire him for his courage, belief in a bright future and positivity he brings to others. Vitaliy is very religious and sings in a church choir. And his dream in life is to be able to create a great family and have healthy kids. Vitaliy believes that he can survive his illness and looks forward into his future and hopes for your help to make this possible.
