BENEFITING: SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA WILDLIFE CENTER INC
Your donation will help Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke build an aviary specifically for flight rehabilitation of eagles, hawks and other birds of prey.
The aviary we intend to build will help us flight train the birds so they are prepared for a successful release back in to the wild. Currently without this resource, birds receiving rehab must travel four hours round trip for training. As all of our cases come to us with injuries, the added strain of travel causes more stress on the bird and may slow and/or impede full recovery.
All photos included in this fundraising campaign feature our rehabilitated patients, except for the final photo which showcases the blueprint for our aviary plans.
About our cause: The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke is a state and federally licensed veterinary and rehabilitation facility. We offer care and veterinary treatment to wild animals from the greater Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas. Operating since 2000, directors Sabrina and Lucky Garvin are members of the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association and the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council and have over 19 years experience in wildlife rehabilitation. Our facility specializes in native Virginia wildlife. We have a strong emphasis on birds, which constitutes the majority of our nearly 2000 cases admitted each year. Patients include raptors (owls, kestrels, hawks, etc.), waterfowl (including herons, geese, ducks, and shorebirds), and migratory birds, such as state-threatened Chimney Swifts and diminutive Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds.
