Help Sidra Heal after Acid Attack: Pakistan
Organized by: Amanda Frankel
20-year old Sidra was living in her mother's house, while her neighbor Arsalan aggressively pursued her hand in marriage. Sidra wasn’t interested -she had a steady job at a factory and was more than capable of supporting herself, her 2-year old son, and widowed mother. One morning, as she stood at the bus stop waiting to go to work, her neighbor threw acid on her face and fled. “If you can’t be mine, you won't be fit to be someone else's either," he’d previously told her after multiple rejections.
Now, Sidra is suffering both from physical burns and fighting for justice. As a single mother, Sidra simply cannot cover her medical costs. Please make a donation today to ensure that she gets the medical attention she desperately needs.
For exercising her right to say no, Sidra’s neighbor decided she should be punished. Within a minute, he had his revenge and Sidra’s life was changed forever. She’s physically scarred and in need of intensive reconstructive surgery, and in immense pain. Her family is struggling with the emotional toll of such an assault. Her two-year-old son initially refused to come to his mother, unable to recognize her in spite of recognizing her voice. Sidra and her family are suffering from loss of livelihood, the economic burden of medical care and household expenses, and the psychological trauma of being violently attacked.
Please do what you can, whatever you can, to help Sidra and her family. Thank you for your generosity.
Violence Against Women In Pakistan:
Acid attacks against women are at an all-time high in Pakistan. Hundreds of assaults like Sidra's happen every year in Pakistan, leaving survivors scarred, disfigured, blind, emotionally and economically burdened for the rest of their lives. While groups like Bolo Bhi are fighting for justice, there's something you can do to help in the meantime.
Whatever amount you can give to help Sidra and her family as they are recovering from this tragedy would make a huge impact. Your donation will go a long way in ensuring that Sidra gets the medical attention she needs.
