Help Spread The LOVE
Organized by: David Llarena
Every year tropical storms and natural disasters hit South East Asia; typhoons (like Typhoon Yoldanda) ravage through the Philippines causing devastation to an already impoverished nation.
The organization I'm a part of, Global Evangelistic Ministries (GEM), is reaching people around the world with the love of God through missions and relief outreach. GEM exists for the purpose of sending mission teams, shipping relief goods, donations and educational materials to countries in need. The Philippines is one of these countries.
There is a local school and several churches throughout the country that use the supplies we send as well as distribute aid to people in impoverished/affected communities. The school, Tabernacle of Faith Christian Academy (TFCA) a non-profit institution, is a Pre-school, Grade School and High school. It's located in the city of San Juan which is in the heart of Metro Manila. The surrounding area is a flood zone so the school assists the community with disaster preparedness and in distributing relief and medical supplies. The building serves as an evacuation and relief center.
TFCA was partially burned a few years ago (during a typhoon) and lost a lot of their equipment, books and teaching materials. Many boxes of books and donations have already come in but we need more help to buy microscopes, science lab equipment, computer equipment, more books, and teaching materials. We also plan to purchase clothes, shoes, blankets, and medical equipment for medical missions. These will be used by the local churches in reaching impoverished communities.
My sister, Leah, has been based in the Philippines for over 10 years and oversees our operations there, including administration of TFCA. She is the primary person responsible for receiving and allocating all donations.
As of now we have roughly 25 boxes ready to ship and are hoping for more donations both in kind and monetary to come in for some of the other needs we have yet to acquire. All donations will be used in purchasing the needed supplies and materials or in the shipment of boxes. The cost to ship is $65 per box and takes approximately 2-3 months to arrive by sea. We are hoping to raise the money to send the 25 boxes, or more hopefully :), before the end of October. This will get the boxes there before Christmas just in time for mission teams to bring them to families in need during the holidays.
Help us get these boxes to people who need them most. We can't do it without you!
