Help Stop the Wastewater Treatment Plant!
Organized by: L Sullivan
NBU plans to build a wastewater treatment plant near our neighborhood and dump 4.9 MILLION GALLONS of treated WASTEWATER into the Guadalupe River EVERY SINGLE DAY. This wastewater treatment plant will only be built to meet the minimum water quality treatment standards required by law. The plant will largely be devoted to serving the Veramendi development, not the neighborhoods surrounding it. They will be dumping treated wastewater approximately 4000 ft upstream from where they collect water that is ultimately used for our tap water. Wastewater causes algae blooms that will cover the surface of the river. This wastewater treatment plant will be surrounded by residential, commercial and tourist areas. It's likely that people in the surrounding areas will be able to smell the stench of sewage.
This could have a negative effect on the value of your property. You may be able to smell sewage outside and even INSIDE your own home. Who will want to buy a home in our neighborhood if it reeks of sewage? The treatment plant could also affect the quality and appearance of water in our river, and the drinking water that comes from it. Our neighborhood park currently adds value to all our homes, but it may become less enjoyable and decrease in value. The plant could also have a negative impact on Guadalupe River tourism and the businesses that depend on it.
RHNA, in conjunction with several other parties, is involved in a legal battle opposing the permit that NBU needs to build the plant. We desperately need donations to pay our portion of the legal fees required to keep up the fight! Please consider donating to help this important cause. If you love the river, our neighborhood, and the smell of fresh air, please make a donation! Any amount helps!
