As missionaries from New Zealand, we're seeking partners to support the planting of a prayer and community-centered church right here in Southern California.

The Challenge

We have been given the unbelievable opportunity of planting a church here in Southern California – but to do it, we need your help. We're seeking to train in a leadership program through Rockharbor Church which will help us head up a church plant - becoming volunteer staff at an affiliated church plant in Newport Beach. 'Viewpoint Church', beginning this fall, is a church that will be Bible-based, family-oriented, sports and recreation-minded, recovery-sensitive, prayer focused, missional, worshipful and casual. Put simply, It's going to be a community-focused church that's big on loving people just like Jesus.

Faith Pledge - 'To inspire and guide people of all ages to make a difference in their community by knowing God better and discovering His purpose for their lives.'

But to make this happen, being missionaries from New Zealand - we must raise an initial $20000 by november 20 in legal fees in order to be able to attain our R-1 visas which will enable us to work in a religious vocation here in the US. Once raised, we'll be able to jump right into the Viewpoint church plant in Newport Beach by november 30, 2013 - eager and ready to share the good news to those who don't yet know Jesus. We may be young, and the time to raise this support may be short due to the ever-changing legal timeframes, but God is faithful - and we can't wait to accredit this hurdle to His glory.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.” - Acts 2:42-45
The Journey

For nearly two years we have been leading the ‘Pursue’ Young Adults Ministry at Grace Hills Church in Aliso Viejo, CA - and we’ve had plenty of opportunities to see God work first hand. One of our ministries has been launching our outreach initiative into the local community colleges, where we seek to tangibly show the love of Jesus by forming meaningful relationships with the students, and by having a short bible study each week. Through this, we’ve been able to share the Good News with many people - from Muslims, Hindus and Jews to Agnostics and Atheists. We recently even had one of our atheist brothers we had been sharing the gospel with accept Christ.

'Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”' Matthew 22:37-39

We have also been able to share the gospel in public elementary schools through partnering with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Having started our first Good News Club at Oak Grove Elementary in Aliso Viejo about a year and a half ago, we’ve seen it grow from our first week with two - to now having thirty-five plus kids. It’s been truly a blessing to be able to teach these children about Jesus in a public forum, on a weekly basis. Today, we have two Good News Clubs having launched the second a little over a month ago – and it’s already blossomed to having nine kids. How about that!

The Call to Plant

‘After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.’ – Luke 10:1

While there are plenty of other wider, well-trodden paths for us to follow, it’s the seldom-travelled narrow track that we must use in order to fulfill His purpose for us in expanding His kingdom and revealing His glory to those who desperately need it.

About six months ago and purely by God’s grace, we were able to meet with Chris Wienand - one of the key leaders in the development of church plants and the overall direction of the churches in America. God had been stirring the thought of a church plant in us about a few months before the meeting – but we felt more like a Gideon than a David in answering that call. It seemed implausible and practically impossible, yet here we were, having a quiet coffee with one of the most influential church leaders in the US. Next, he began to share with us about Rockharbor's mission to seek out young passionate leaders and equip them for church planting. We could no longer quench our desire to plant, and shared with him our heart to plant a church like the early church of the New Testament - a community that’s founded on prayer and loving people as they are, welcoming them into our homes and just sharing a meal together in perfect simplicity.

Since then, much has happened. We were recommended by Chris to the pastors of Rockharbor and Viewpoint Churches, who we’ve been meeting for a few months now in discerning God’s mission and vision for the church plant. We have a prayer group fervently and consistently praying over this, through which additional doors have been opened where other churches are also willing to provide teaching resources to better equip us for the many challenges ahead. It’s just been incredible to see God grab a hold of this – and turn what was an implausible dream into nearing a tangible reality.

November is only just around the corner, and this church plant is really gaining momentum. We welcome you to become a part of something that's going to see lives radically transformed for Christ, for generations to come!
