My name is Susan McKenna. On April 29, 2014, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I chose to disregard the stage attached to the diagnosis and got busy healing myself. I didn't do conventional treatment. I listened to my gut and healed myself using food as medicine. I also opened myself up to the graces of the Universe, and they were plentiful. Along the way I wrote some blogposts on medgift.com. Person after person kept saying, "You should write a book." So I did.
I wrote a book of essays on thoughts I had while healing. I'd love to put this book into the world. I know that when I needed stories of people healing without doing chemo or radiation, these stories were hard to find, even though many people have healed in both ways. These stories of alternative healing need to be told so that we can take the fear out of cancer and offer hope to those who find themselves in the place I was. I offer my story because I wish I could have found more to buoy me up when I was scared. Cancer isn't easy, but it can be transformative. I allowed it to change me, to make me grow, to deepen me. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm grateful for the experience.
A couple of weeks ago I sent two essays to a senior publishing consultant at Balboa Press, a subsidiary of Hay House. She was very encouraging and wished she'd had this book when her mother was trying to heal from breast cancer. Her response prompted me to start this campaign to see if I can raise the funds to publish this book. I have bought a self-publishing package with Balboa Press but could use some help offsetting those costs. I trust the Universe will help me birth it into the world if it is meant to be. I humbly ask for your donations if you or anyone you know has been touched by cancer and could have used this book. Together we can put one more healing tale into the world and lessen the fear that surrounds cancer. I am deeply grateful.
