Help the Gautam Family Rebuild
Organized by: Pamela Farkas
Event Name: Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund
UPDATE: JANUARY 2016 REBUILDING HAS STARTED! Ram and family are happy to report that they have finally been able to start rebuilding. They were able to save the foundation and will rebuild a much stronger house on top of it. Thank you to everyone for your support!
UPDATE NOVEMBER 2015: Thanks to your generosity, Ram and his family have moved into a small apartment. The children have started school again. Due to the fuel shortages in Nepal, Ram has not been able to start tearing down his house or rebuilding as of yet. He and his family send heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped.
JULY 2015 Like families all over Nepal, our friend Ram Gautam, his wife Srijana, and their children Jennifer (8) and Jenish (5) lost everything in the earthquakes that struck on April 25th and May 12th of this year. While they survived, their home - a home for which Ram had worked and saved his entire life - was destroyed. The house is no longer safe to live in or even to enter. Everything inside - cups, clothes, furniture, plates, books - has been broken or damaged beyond repair. They are now living under a tarp on the roadside in conditions that are making Srijana and children ill, and the monsoons are looming. They have no way to prepare meals and the price of food has skyrocketed. Access to water, electricity, and internet is difficult and sporadic. The families for which Ram was working have all left Nepal; with luck, he will find another job - but to save up for another house would take decades. Ram and his family need help to clear the rubble and debris, construct a new foundation, and build anew.
The scale of the disaster in Nepal is staggering. Nearly 9,000 people lost their lives, and over half a million families lost their homes. It is difficult, faced with such massive tragedy, to know how to help. Making a difference in the life of one family is a good place to start. Please join us in the effort to help our friends Ram, Srijana, Jennifer and Jenish to rebuild their lives.
