The Huntington News, Northeastern University's independent student-run newspaper, has been working with the same computers and software for nearly a decade.
Over the summer, The News is hoping to switch to new computers (that don't crash) and software that actually works, with modern industry standards.
Recently, the server hosting all software licenses, archives and fonts crashed. The News no longer has access to its contents, leaving staff to use their laptops and trial software to produce the paper. The trial ends April 20, the day the last paper of the semester will be published.
After the software trial runs out, The News will not be able to put out a print edition. Until we raise enough money to replace the software, and get computers that are equipped to run it, we will publish online only. While we are planning to remain active online for the summer semester, if money isn't raised by September we won't have a print edition, depriving the paper of readers and ad revenue.
As an independent organization, we operate without university support, and are funded by donations and advertisements. We appreciate your support, and anything you can give.
