While volunteering in Nepal, my friend Chris and I heard this heartbreaking story about a Sherpa woman, whose husband tragically died in the mountains last year.
Sherpa Human Dawa went to mount everest to guide for some Spanish people but fate struck and they were hit by an ice avalanche. Dawa and the westerners died in a tragic accident and unfortunately, the bodies were never recovered.
Human Dawa had four children: three girls and one boy. His age was 43, Pama Lamo is his wife, she is 33 years old. Tsering is his first daughter; her age is 16. Lakpa Yangzom is his 2nd daughter; she is 13 years old. Gyalmo is his 3rd daughter; she is 11 years old. Karma Rinchen is his son; he is 9 years.
Although the widow was supposed to get some support through the Nepalese government, she never managed to receive anything.
Although her family is originally from the Sherpa community near the Everest, she now lives near Kathmandu with the aim of providing her kids some schooling.
The woman has four mouths to feed. They live under very poor conditions in a ghetto-like environment. All of this would be just bearable, if only she had had enough money to ensure a good education for their kids.
The aim of this fundraiser is to enable her kids to attend school for a year. The total costs of this will be about 1000 US$.
It is our hope that everyone who feels connected with Nepal somehow will donate a small amount of money and spread the word. If you have been trekking in Nepal, you might have seen the heavy and dangerous conditions under which porters and mountain guides sometimers have to operate. If fate strikes, it turns out that social security in Nepal is not something you could rely on. If you have been trekking or if you are planning a trek, please consider this. Hiring a cheap porter is one thing, but paying a little more in order to have your guide or porter covered in case of accident is actually much better in case of any future accidents like this.
Thank you all,
Chris and Thierry.
