Help to avoid homelessness!!
Organized by: Sarah McIvy
Hello, I found out that one of my main scholarships fell through last minute. I've managed to convince the financial aid office at my school that I will be able to have the entire balance paid by the beginning of January semester (it took a lot of convincing) and they allowed me to register for courses with the expectation that I will have paid off this balance in full by that time! I've already managed to get $3,500 and right now need another $10,000 to pay for this balance and the deposit for housing. I've tried applying for every loan I can think of, but am unable to get approved for any more than the little I've received. Most of my schooling has come through some small loans I was able to qualify for, grants and scholarships. Prior to starting school, I worked 3 jobs to save up. While in school, I work 2-3 part time jobs depending on what fits my class schedule. My parents passed away in a car accident when I was younger and was bounced around the foster system, so I have no family to ask for help or rely on. I married young thinking I could create my own support network only to have chosen wrongly. It turned very dangerously abusive very quickly. A few years ago, I was finally able to escape although I still can't shake the habit of looking over my shoulder. I thought I was on my way to getting my life on track until this bombshell landed. Right now I'm staying on a friend's couch but won't be able to much longer. I'm hoping to figure out a way to pay off this balance or maybe close enough to it that they will let me stay and make the rest in payments throughout the semester. If I can do this, I'll be able to move back on campus and attend my classes. I only have 2 years left until I graduate. I'm double majoring in early childhood education and social work. I hope to be able to give back to my community and help children from abusive homes. One of my dreams is to fund a scholarship for young girls that come from abusive homes. No donation is too small, anything can help and I really appreciate any amount that you can give. Please help me stay in school and housed! Thank you so much!
