THE STORY:

The earthquake that struck Japan on Friday was so powerful that it actually moved the whole planet by 25cm, experts say.

According to Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology the 9.0 magnitude 'quake was so powerful it shifted the axis around which the Earth rotates.

And the U.S. Geological Survey reported that the main island of Japan has been shifted 2.4 metres by the force of the disaster.

The shift to the Earth's tilt will have profound, if subtle effects on the length of the day and the passage of the seasons.

The death toll, according to all available information, has reached 2,5 thousand persons, about two thousand persons have got wounds, more than 17 thousand are registered on missing persons.

All the insanity circling the world is keeping me awake and gripped to what's happening with Japan, regimes that are being toppled in the Middle East, an Israeli family of five slaughtered while asleep, and sad statistics like 45,000 people dying monthly in Congo from hunger, war, and disease. Turbulence is what life is about, but still...Right now, I'm thinking more about where our world is heading and less about the job at hand. It doesn't comfort me to know that I am in an earthquake-friendly area here in sunny Los Angeles with nuclear reactors not far off. We've barely peeped out of the recession and are now confronted with seeing the frailty of life and how our daily existence can easily be taken away or shaken up to its core foundation. The light is always in front of us and I cling onto the great things I have. I won't expound on those now. But it's not enough to just be thankful, we have to GIVE and HELP others. 6 years ago
