BENEFITING: TRINITY YARD
Eggs are a staple in this remote area of Ghana--our primary source of protein. We travel two hours to get to the big market in Takoradi where we do our weekly shopping, so having our own layers would not only alleviate some of that burden, but we would also be producing higher quality eggs. Our hens will be free ranged and integrated into our permaculture garden system. Producing our eggs will get us one more step closer to food security.
Your generous donation will allow us to purchase 25 hens ($200 for mature layers plus $80 for day old chicks), a movable wire fence ($200 plus shippingt) and feed ($20) as we wait for our corn to mature. We have just finished building a large, chicken tractor and hope to move the hens in before school begins.
Within six months not only will we be self-suffient in eggs, but we will also have pullets to sell or trade!
